On being a Grandma- A Series - July 31, 2011

Being a grandma is a fun job!!! You can visit with little ones, play with them, and then leave them to their own parents. But it is most often, simply a privilege that you are lucky enough to get to be called “Grandma, Grammie, Nanny, Nan or whatever she may be called in any other language!

Blake & me on the deck at Lily's Cafe, on the banks of Lily Lake.
I recently had that privilege with our second eldest grandson, Blake. He had just completed eighth grade and middle school. His final year before heading into high school in September.

Blake and I went to lunch at a ‘fancy’ lunch spot in our city. We chose Lily’s Cafe, located on the banks of Lily Lake, smack dab in the center of our city, within the 870 hectares or 2,200 acres of beautiful Rockwood Park.
I could tell Blake felt so grown-up, placing his own order and assisting me, in making a special request for our meal, to the waiter.

Blake in front of the iron union statue in memory of the fallen and injured workers of the city, called "Day of Mourning", by artists Darren Byers and Fred Harrison of the town of Sussex, near Saint John.

After lunch we took a tour of a part of the uptown area and then finished off our time with a visit to our local museum.

We weren't really supposed to take pictures, but this  one is without a flash.

At fourteen, he may soon, no longer want to spend his time with his Grandma, as friends and young ladies hold more of his interests. So, I was very grateful for our few hours, of special time together!!

  2. Thanks Claudia, but the reality is, when the older ones see, Grandma less, it seems the upcoming younger ones are around more! So all is good! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Very nice! I'll be going down next month to visit my little Jordan. I'm sure he'll have grown quite a bit by the time I see him again. My daughter said he's gained two onces and is eating not only her breast milk but formula, too.

Looks like you and your grandson had fun. I can hardly wait to take mine to the zoo and the parks.

  4. He is one year older than my Wonder Boy. I'm surprised he let you take his photo. You're right, they don't have much time for "Grandmother". I remember the days when he was a little guy and we spent much time together. Now, I have to make a date with him.

  7. I enjoyed this thing with you and Blake. My BW is a grandmother, and when they were young she took them to church with her. They called her mamaw cause couldn't say granma. They really loved her. It's a little different now. The boy is in the marines, and the girl is in high school now. We live 60 minutes away now, so she don't see them except rarely. But grandmothers are truly wonderful people, and that includes you.
