A,B,C Friday Photo Share "G" is for Grandchildren

A big Thank You to Maple Leaf Mommy and Mom vs the Boys for hosting this really fun Photo Share.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am all about family! So it would only be logical for me to choose a family topic. So I have picked "G" is for grandchildren.  

We have seven of those proginators. Six of whom live near enough to gather together, once in awhile for a family photograph. We managed this at Christmas this past December. The other is our youngest grandchild, who lives on the other side of the country in Ft. MacMurray. 

Maybe on her next trip home, I'll be able to gather all the little chicks together in one spot  and get them all in one photo.

Being a hobby gardener and having a passion for being near the earth, the obvious choice for me was flowers. Being fortunate enough to be living in the country, we are able to have flowers of some type, during all four of our seasons.

Some of the Spring flowers found around our yard are:

Delightful Daisies

Dancing Daffodils

Wild Strawberry Blossoms

Wild Apple Blossoms

A few of the summer flowers are:

Fucsia cosmos

Pink Columbine

Bleeding hearts

Pink & White Day Lilies

Yellow Day Lilies

A few of the Fall flowers around  our yard are:

Sunflowers reaching for the sky

October Roses

October Pansy

Even in winter, we can still find some interest in the yard flowers.

Holly berries on the bush.

Sedum in Winter adding garden interest.

Crabapples in Ice

But the best Winter flowers of all,  are Valentine Fowers, picked out by my husband who still thinks of me on this day after 43 years!

Our Atlantic Provinces are just recovering from a major rain and wind storm last week. Now we're preparing for a Winter blizzard this weekend, so, I thought an appropriate word for today would be energy.
There are many, many forms of energy. These are just a few.

Wordless Wednesday - Feb. 6, 2013

I don't usually find myself up on our roof, so don't think I've gone completely mad. But, after our wind storm, we lost a few shingles. While my smart and handy son-in-law was up doing some repairs, I got brave enough to venture up there with my camera. These are a few photos from the top of our roof.

The lake is still frozen over, facing southeast.

Just to prove I was, indeed, up there.

A, B C Friday Post - Feb 1, 2013 "D" is for Damage

I usually try to have all my posts and photos of a positive nature. However, after going through a  whole night and day of howling winds and pounding, rentless, rains, today I find it a difficult and daunting task.
This personal assault by Mother Nautre on our property, let alone our nerves and recalled memories of a similar day in 1976, have left me a little shaken.

So the following are a few photos of the type of things we'll be dealing with over the next several days.

I am very aware, that these are only minor compared to what others may have encountered and what other parts of the world have  endured and for this I am very grateful. And I can only say, "May God be with them."  But this is our story for today.

Our door blew open and was torn off it's casing, as it crashed against the side of the garage.

Some of the downed branches from the maple tree, littered a now bare, yard.

More downed limbs from the maple trees scattered over the yard, with the gated standing lopsided against the wind.

Some of the most expensive and difficult to repair damage is missing shingles and tar paper from the roof.

A downed cedar tree, now just a snack for the wild deer, until it's cut down for firewood later in the Spring.

We removed the center piece of the gate to keep the whole thing from ripping from the now softened grounds.But it now stands partially leaning against the winds.

                                  

This inside water damage will take several days, a fan, heat and a dehumidifier, to dry, before it's safe to walk on again.
